Guild newsletter pieces

The Guild publishes a newsletter three times a year in which every branch gives an account of their activities over the past months. Here is the piece for the Kettering Branch from the last newsletter.

April’s branch meeting took place at Corby. The meeting was fairly well attended, and featured an attempt at Mr Dixon’s Bob Minor, which sadly failed. Many thanks for the refreshments provided by the local ringers.

On May 14th the annual Branch Outing took place. This year, the event, organised by Nick Churchman, took place around the Saffron Waldon area; the highlight being the twelve at Saffron Waldon itself. The outing is usually well attended, and this year plenty of people turned out to enjoy a ring at some different towers. Many thanks to Nick for organising a good day out.

The Cycle Outing returned to the branch programme, after a long absence, in June. Jim and Sarah Bence organised the afternoon’s event around the Market Bosworth area. The blisteringly hot day was perfect for cycling, and after a ring at Sutton Wharf we set off on a twelve mile ride, stopping off at Congerstone and Market Bosworth before a picnic tea in the park. The day was a success, apart from a minor crash, so many thanks to Jim and Sarah for organising the outing. Hopefully the success of this year’s event will make the cycle outing a continuing feature on the branch programme for years to come.

Congratulations to the Kettering Branch team who recently won the Guild eight bell striking competition.

By the time this is published the Quarter Peal day and barbeque will have taken place. Watch this space for a write up next time
