Guild newsletter pieces

The Guild publishes a newsletter three times a year in which every branch gives an account of their activities over the past months. Here is the piece for the Kettering Branch from the last newsletter.

This year the annual general meeting was held at Kettering. Attendance was lower than previous years but those who were there had an opportunity to ring on the newly re-hung twelve. Ringing consisted of methods for all abilities and many learners benefited from the more experienced ringers. After the first bit of ringing there was then a short service in the church, followed by dinner in the hall, provided by the Kettering caterers in their usual high standard. Many thanks to them, and all the other people who contributed to organising the meeting. The meeting itself was one of the shortest on record, partly due to not much happening; but also the introduction of Meeting Bingo kept people quiet, as they concentrated on every word that was said in case it could be ticked off on their sheet.

Some of the more notable events in the meeting included Jim Bence being elected as the new Chairman. And myself, Adrian Wallis being elected as the new Press Correspondent; I look foreword to writing many ramblings about the goings on of the Kettering Branch. Other committee members where re-elected into their positions. Congratulations and certificates where given to Paul Burt, who rang his first Quarter Peal during the year. More certificates and applause to Robert, Deborah and Adrian Wallis for their first Peals, which took place during the year for the 80th anniversary of the first peal for the guild at Desborough. The meeting concluded after some other business and another session of ringing continued at Kettering.

This years branch events are going to be similar to previous years. But the re-introduction of a cycling outing after many years of absence is one of the changes. For more details on all events see the circulated branch programme sheet.

February's meeting took place at the newly augmented 6 at Geddington. Attendance was relatively high with a nice mixture of regulars and local ringers. The afternoon training session at Rothwell was also well attended, with the simulator and dumbbell put to good use to keep the locals happier.

March's meeting will have been held at Desborough, where fundraising has recently began for re-hanging the current eight bells in one frame. The work will cost around £25,000, and is well on the way. Any donations are most welcome. That's all for now folks.
