Team Falchion take part in Living History, Re-enactment, Banquet and medieval-themed events. We have provided Robin Hood and his merry men for DIY store openings; Ghosts for castle tours; 14th century encampments for city heritage celebrations, fight demos at biker rallies, and tournament arenas.
2004 has been a busy season - we had 6 shows at 5 venues in 14 days during August! 2005 is already looking like another great year, with 3 castle bookings and 6 banquets already confirmed, and the expectation of regular bookings with another employer.
Our arena fight shows are what the team was originally founded for, and we now have 20+ trained fighters, who will fight duels at full speed and full contact, without any rehearsal. This is live performance, not staged theatre, and adds that extra element of realism and danger. Of course, our fighters are well trained, and we've never had anything other than minor bumps and bruises.
Our Living History encampment is the newest feature of our shows, and one we intend to expand in 2005, hopefully with lottery funding from Awards For All, that will help us buy equipment to help bring about greater interest and involvement in our country's heritage.
As a measure of our standards of combat training, three of our more experienced fighters took part in the full contact tournament at the National Living History Fayre in February 2004, and all succeeded in winning at least one duel. In October 2004, no less than seven members of Falchion are taking part in the tournament, including two of our women warriors.
We are also prepared to take a quirky turn. We have performed Robin Hood themed shows for a couple of venues. We have performed as ghosts and tour guides at Tutbury Castle, including staffing the Worlds Biggest Ghost Hunt in October 2003, where 2,400 members of the public were in attendance. We have run two successful children's fairytale days at Tutbury Castle, which involved dressing up as a jester, cow, teddy bear and pirates. We don't have to take everything too seriously, you know.
