Evening Grazing. Following a period of stormy weather spent at anchor at Kukak Bay we returned to Hallo in the late afternoon and went ashore as the evening sun was lighting up the meadow. We set up in position sitting in the long grass while this sow slowly grazed towards us. We stayed in the same spot until 10pm while the bears came and went around us - a magical experience.

Play Fight. These two second and third summer cubs take the opportunity to play while their mothers graze and take a rest from the demands of the cubs.

Bear Meadow. Mother and two spring cubs in the meadows at Hallo Bay. The sow slowly grazed past us calling her cubs to follow. At first they were reluctant to move and eyed us warily, but she became more insistent and loud huffing eventually persuaded them to follow her into the grass for a nap. When she returned to graze the cubs moved back out without concern and ignored us completely. A life lesson learnt apparently.

Spring Cub. This cub sat patiently in a cloud of mosquitoes while waiting for mother to finish grazing and suckle, occasionally tasting the sedge, but without much apparent enthusiasm.

Mother and Spring Cubs. A cub samples the new experience of eating sedges while mother watches and sibling sleeps.
