DO I HAVE TO COME ON TASKS EVERY WEEK?
No. Just come along as frequently - or infrequently - as you like. There is no commitment or pressure to spend
any minimum time on tasks. Some people come every week, others maybe once a year. It's up to you.
WHAT DOES THE DCV PROVIDE?
- Fun and companionship
- A chance to care for the environment practically
- Opportunity to learn new skills
- On the job training in skills required
- All necessary tools
- Opportunity of further training courses
- Social events
- Accommodation on weekend tasks
- The chance of seeing some of the most beautiful parts of Dorset
WHAT WILL I NEED?
- Stout footwear
- Old clothes
- Tough gloves (we may have some to sell/lend to you)
- Waterproofs, suncream, sun hat, insect repellent.
- If staying overnight – a change of clothes, sleeping bag (air bed/camp bed if you wish)
- Up to date tetanus injection
HOW DO I GET TO A TASK?
We can usually fix up a lift – if you need or can offer a lift phone Ian Hay or Peter Warren on
the Wednesday or Thursday before a task.
- In addition lifts are usually available from Wool station (our toolstore is nearby).
HOW LONG IS A DCV DAY?
- 10.00a.m. – 5.00p.m. approximately
- One hour for lunch plus breaks for drinks
HOW DO I FIND THE DCV?
- The maps with the task programme (at the back of the newsletter) will show you the locations
of tasks
- Look for the DCV's orange arrows as you near the worksite
- Sometimes the DCV green information board may show an explanatory note
- If you are unsure of the worksite try to arrive by 10.00 so as to meet the other volunteers.
The worksite might be a little way from the parking area
WHAT ABOUT FOOD, DRINK & ACCOMMODATION?
- For weekend tasks we hire a village hall, cook an evening meal, visit the local pub and
sleep in the hall Saturday night
- The charge for a weekend including Saturday evening meal, lunch Saturday and Sunday,
breakfast on Sunday and accommodation, is £3.00
- DCV provides free hot/cold drinks and biscuits throughout the day.
- All volunteers are welcome to come for the evening meal and pub whether working both days or
just one.
- All halls offered by DCV provide separate male and female toilet/washing and changing
facilities.
Note:
If you have a medical condition or allergies of any sort please carry a card and bring any necessary medicines. If you wish, bring this to the attention of the task leader.
All youngsters are welcome, but should be accompanied by a responsible adult
