About this site

For anyone who may be interested here are some notes on how this site is put together.

The main tool used to build the site is the NetObjects Fusion 7.0 HTML authoring package running on an IBM NetVista A30p PC.

The banner graphic and the DCV logo were made using The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) running at the time on Red Hat Linux 6.1.

Changes to the site are uploaded via FTP to a webserver at Virgin Media, using the webspace offered by VM with its broadband internet service (10 Mbps, connected via standalone cable modem).

The domain name dcv.org.uk was registered with Nominet by Worldwide Internet Services who also provide a URL forwarding service which sends requests for www.dcv.org.uk to the 'real' URL at NTL (now Virgin Media). This allows us to use the dcv.org.uk name which is simpler and reflects the DCV identity. However, the URL forwarding complicates life for the robots and crawlers used by search engines such as Google to index websites and this is why if anybody comes to the site via a search engine they may see the 'real' ntlworld address in the browser window title bar.
