Martin Spink
Martin is the crazy, hardworking guy who sits at the back of the band bashing the skins. Like the rest of the band he also got into rock,n,roll at a young age and his earliest memories include hearing his mum and dad playing 'That'll Be The Day' and his elder sister, a big Cliff and The Shadows fan, playing her stuff around the house. Martin says "I still like Cliffs early rock'n'roll numbers. When I was eleven my neighbour got a copy of 'Hey Rock'n'Roll' by Showaddywaddy and like many others at the time they became a favourite of mine when I was at school. This led me to look a bit deeper into the music and by the age of fourteen I was really into Gene Vincent, Johnny Burnette, Eddie Cochran etc. I eventually bought a snare drum and learnt to play drums which led to joining a band called Sticky Fingers. As well as covering rock'n'roll songs we also played stuff by the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix. We played a lot of local venues but my favourite gigs were always the ones we played in London. They always had a great buzz about them. Being with The Roofraisers now is a very exciting time as the response from the crowds has been great and makes it all worthwhile. I'm really looking forward to getting in the studio to do our next CD. As my son would say, thats going to be 'cool'.
