General Information

I live in Wales, in Cardiff, the capital. It is quite a bustling and cosmopolitan city, with plenty of culture and lots going on. Although by training an engineer I have been interested in painting and drawing for a number of years; I have been taking photographs since I was nine years old, but the advent of digital photography has given me a lot of new scope to produce better and more exciting images.

I am also passionately interested in making musical instruments, a combination of science, craft and art both creative and meticulous. I have made a number of violins and classical guitars. I have been making instruments for almost 20 years. I also buy and restore old instruments.   It is satisfying to get them into a working condition, and possibly into the best condition they have ever been in, to find their true voice.  I attended the now defunct Welsh School of Instrument Making.

Varnishing also has a number of striking parallels to oil painting.

I love to draw the human body and have done this on a regular basis for a  number of years. This site contains a number of examples of my work.

A more recent interest is painting in both oils and acrylics, I love to use colour and possibilities of these media are endless. I have recently studied at the St. Ives School of Painting, a very rewarding experience.

This summer I exhibited in an open competition, one of my life drawing was highly commended.
