Bee-eater

Bee-eater

An exotic looking bird that we had as a visitor Summer 2002. A pair bred for the first time in decades in this Country in the old quarry at Bishop Middleham, County Durham, just a few miles away from me. Thousands of people called to watch them. I had several visits myself prior to the mass publicity that they attracted. Unfortunately getting near the birds was a problem as they are very flighty, on the move for most of the time. These telephone wires beside the quarry provided a useful feeding perch for them to fly from catching flies.
