Moorhen

Moorhen

These are another charming little water fowl. They bob their heads when walking along or swimming and appear to be just as comfortable out of the water as in it, though never far from it’s safety. They definitely prefer the margins and the security of the vegetation as opposed to swimming freely in the centre of the ponds as the ducks do. Whilst the ducks prefer to remain in the water, the Moorhens quite readily leave the water to be fed by hand. They are quite common and seem to associate with the Coots, but are nothing like as numerous.
