Canada Goose

Canada Goose

Quite a pleasant sight on our local pond at Cowpen Bewley. In the winter we can have large numbers (80+) of them invading the pond for a couple of weeks whilst on their migration. The wardens hate them as they stir up the bottom causing muddied water making it difficult for the other wildlife to feed. Last Spring we had a pair successfully breed. The Mute Swans were annoyed as they pinched their breeding site from the previous year. Normally they are the bullies of the pond, but they seemed to respect that the Canada’s had bred first and could keep their spot.
