THOMAS
CARLISLE, GEORGE and FRANCES PILKINGTON After
the death of Eliza Horrocks in 1872, Merlewood was purchased from her trustees
by her nephew William Pitt Miller. He proceeded to let the property for some
four years to Thomas Carlisle, a merchant from Liverpool. Two of his
grandchildren were born at Merlewood. 1873

Alkali Co., living in Little Woolton, Liverpool. His son Malcolm Pilkington was
a stockbroker agent, living in London. Thomas Oldham was a farm bailiff, living in Watford,
and Charles Oldham was a gardener, also living in
