Monumental Inscriptions (MIs)

The recording of MIs, which often contain much unique information, is a worthwhile task. With the passing of time, information from this valuable source is being lost as the gravestones erode away or become damaged or smashed by vandals. Also, gravestones can gradually sink into the ground and on some rare occasions seem to disappear completely!

For some MIs in Chapel Allerton Cemetery (the old St. Matthew's churchyard) and information about persons buried there, click on Chapel Allerton Cemetery. This link also takes you to Memorials and Monumental Inscriptions at St. John The Evangelist Church on Wetherby Road, Roundhay. The St. John's data can also be accessed via the link to the ODHS Website above.

Census Transcriptions

Some years ago I transcribed a number of census records for Roundhay. These are possibly less valuable nowadays with pay-for-view records available on the Internet but I include these here. I did not do the 1881 census because of the CDs containing this information which have been around for many years now.
