Report:
Orange ran out of luck the last time they met Calverton in the semi-final of the FA Trophy. Calverton got out of gaol free today as luck again was in short supply. A cruel deflection in the dying minutes and an unfortunate own goal meant that Orange ended up on the wrong side of this 2-1 scoreline. Dan had put Orange ahead early on in the game when he he almost ripped the net out with a viscious drive after a great cross from Aaron and appeared to be playing the opposition off the park.
Orange started brightly and Luke had a number of shots brilliantly saved by the keeper. Dan provided some good pace down the left wing whipping in some great crosses. Ryan was again operating up front and was unlucky when he was just unable to connect with a superb ball put through by Luke.
After the interval Orange continued to attack. Dan almost scored from the kick off when his shot which was heading for the top corner was well parried by the keeper. Dan just failed to connect with a cross from Brad. Luke again did an amazing turn on the edge of the box, just shooting wide after a clever ball from Elliott. Aaron, who was a tower of strength in midfield, had a shot superbly saved by the keeper who just managed to push the ball around the post for a corner. Aaron crossed for Luke whose header looked to be going in only to be denied by their keeper, who had a very good game. Later on Dan, who had picked up a knock, came on for Hayniey, who continues to improve with every game. Ben had another excellent game in goal standing in for Dan bravely pulling off a number of brave saves. Macauley worked tirelessly holding up the defence and on one occasion tracked all the way back to pull off a crunching tackle when it looked certain that Calverton would score.
Orange performed well and must consider themselves extremely unlucky to be on the losing side. Hopefully they can return to winning ways next week when they are visited by Vernon colts Red in another league fixture.
