Report:
The Orange U10s unbeaten run in the league ended with a 1 - 0 defeat over at Gedling Town Red.
On a pitch that would normally suit their style of play Orange U 10s failed to make their mark on the game. They managed only to string together a few passes and were often hustled off the ball by a sometimes, very physical side.
Chances on either side were few and far between. Brad fired in some fine crosses from the wing but the finishing touch was not there. Dan pulled off an excellent save when one on one with the striker to prevent a certain goal. Brad had a goal bound shot deflected just wide.
Gedling took the lead with an optimistic long range free kick into the penalty are which was parried by Dan only to be pounced on by the Gedling striker a yard from goal.Though physical, Gedling obviously had a game plan and once they took the lead they ensured that they had plenty of players behind the ball. Gedling were often quicker to the ball and seemed hungrier. Even at corners Gedling always had 3 players back and it was always going to be difficult for Orange to make a breakthrough.
Dan pulled off a number of fine saves to keep the score down often bravely diving down at the feet of the oncoming strikers.
Hayniey came on mid way through the first half to replace Harry who had sustained an injury. Ryan, who came close again to scoring, replaced Aaron who had worked very well against some stiff opposition in midfield.
The second half saw some improvement from the Orange with runs from Brad, Ben and Macauley all managing to make their way through a number of tackles. They sustained some pressure for about 10mins. Macauley went close with a long range shot. The Gedling town goal, however, was rarely threatened.
Orange shouldn't be too disappointed, however, as they still lead Gedling by a point and this makes the home game against them very interesting as results, so far, show that they could end up being a contender for the Division 1 title.
