Clothing

We do not intend to put definitive details of our clothing here, as much of it is personal interpretation, and there are already many 'costume' resources on the Internet.

As we aim to portray the common English person during the Wars of the Roses, our clothing is meticulously researched using pictures, accounts, wills and inventories. At all times we try to show the most 'typical' style. At events we have some spare clothing for the public to look at in detail, and even try on!

We aim to use the most accurate materials and methods possible in our clothing - using, wherever possible, the correct weaves and weights of linen and naturally dyed wool. Availability of these fabrics and of the skilled people to produce them is limited, and so we also use commercially woven and dyed wool, as close as possible to natural colours available in England during the late 15th C. We are always keen to learn of new suppliers!

Within the common classes, there is a range in status, and thus clothing styles, and this is reflected in the group. At some events, it is desirable to have higher status clothing and accessories, and which we are currently putting together to use where appropriate.
