Science is another favourite subject of mine. While I was at Homerton I helped with a National Science Week event for three consecutive years and was asked to help at a Chemistry event before the specialist scientists were approached. These events required me to work with children from the entire age range on a range of activities that were mainly physics based and included a friction free surface that relied on a vacuum cleaner working in reverse. In school I have worked on a range of topics including sound where I used a guitar and a slinky spring to model sound waves so that the children were able to attain a more thorough understanding of the subject matter. My science displays have also shown some more creativity. When we looked at flowering plants I designed a display that showed a cross section of a flowering plant. To give you an idea of scale of the display, the largest white sheet is an A3 piece of paper.
I have developed a reputation for using unusual resources in my lessons. When looking at air pressure I took the spare wheel from my car into the classroom to demonstrate that air can be compressed into a set volume.
