I was born in October 1978 in Cambridge and returned to the city to be trained at Homerton College which is now part of the Faculty of Education at Cambridge University. I graduated from Homerton with a Batchelor of Education degree in summer 2001 after a range of professional placements in a variety of schools including JMI, First, Middle and Junior schools.

During my training I specialised in maths at a time when the National Numeracy Strategy was being introduced. My interest in Mathematics Education is still present and I regularly attend the Colloquia in Mathematics Education that is run by the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education at Homerton College. Linked into this is the NRICH website which I use for the open ended investigations. Children love these puzzles and I have found that a wide ability range can find different results at their own level from exactly the same instructions.

My other main interest is in ICT and I have used a range of ICT equipment in schools including Acorn RISC PCs, BBC Micro Computers, PCs and multimedia projectors, producing an instruction sheet for one school I worked in while the ICT coordinator was away. I enjoy the challenge of modern technology and try to keep myself familiar with the type of equipment in schools. Although I have seen demonstrations of interactive whiteboards I have not yet been in a position to use one with a class.

I enjoy making displays that help children to learn and have planned and designed a range of displays that have included using A1 sized screen shots from computers in order to illustrate ICT tasks. I like to make displays three dimensional and interactive if it is possible as physically touching an object can improve learning much more than a text book can.

During my time at Homerton I spent a year on the student union executive committee as the Domestic Officer. This saw me involved with aspects of Health and Safety around the college including working on fire drills, from designing them with the college Head Porter to running drills in the early hours of the morning and evaluating the results. This work also saw me involved in dealing with problems and trying to negotiate between students and the college to resolve a few problems. One solution I managed to negotiate saw a new ventilation system installed into a small 'kitchen' in one of the accommodation blocks.

After some time spent working for Vu 2 Media, an IT company that produced on-line live and archived lessons across a range of subjects, I am now working for Accipio-Learning which works in the same area.

Additionally I build websites for primary schools as a hobby.  Click on the Web Design link above for more information.

Outside of the educational system I enjoy reading and watching science fiction, as well as watching motor sport on the television and live at circuits in my local area.
