Vietnam US Infantry Painting Guide - An Alternative Approach

I have tried using an alternative colour scheme to my previous US Infantry, trying to make the highlights a little more pronounced, thus 'lifting' the look of the whole figure - my previous figures were highlighted a little too subtley, and therefore the highlights do not show that well on the tabletop. I also wanted to try and make a greater difference in colour between the figures uniform and webbing. I like this new look much better!

US Infantry

Unless otherwise stated, all paints used are acrylics.

Undercoat
The model is undercoated in matt black (I use a spray can of either Citadel Chaos Black, or car body matt black primer)
Tunic & Trousers
These were given a basecoat of Coat d'arms 'Jungle Green', and then drybrushed with GW 'Goblin Green' , followed by a light drybrushing of Coat d'arms 'Faded Olive'
Helmets
These were given a base coat of Cote d'Arms 'Faded Khaki'. The camouflage pattern was then painted on using spots of Tamyia 'Olive Drab', Humbrol 'Dark Green' and Citadel 'Sulphur Desert Yellow'.
The tape strips were painted black, and the field dressings painted Cote d'Arms 'Linen'.
Webbing
This was given a basecoat of Coat d'arms 'Olive Drab', and then drybrushed with Coat d'arms 'Tank Drab', followed by a light drybrushing of Coat d'arms 'Faded Khaki'
Weapons
The metal areas on the weapons were given a basecoat of Tamyia 'Gunmetal', followed by a wash of GW 'Armour Wash'.
The rest of the weapon was left black.
Boots
These were left black.
Caucasian Flesh
This was painted by starting with a basecoat of Coat d'arms 'Sunburned Flesh', shading using a wash of GW 'Flesh Wash', and finally drybrushing a highlight using Coat d'arms 'Sunburned Flesh' and Coat d'arms 'Flesh'.
Negro Flesh
This was painted by starting with a basecoat of Coat d'arms 'Negro', and then highlighted by drybrushing using Coat d'arms 'Chocolate Brown'
Details
The towels were given a basecoat of GW 'Imperial Strike Green', followed by a light drybrush of GW 'Camo Green'.
Basing
The base was covered with PVA glue and then dipped in Sharp Sand. The Sharp Sand is important, as it is very coarse in texture, and there are larger pieces of grit which can be painted as rocks.
Once dry, it was given a coat of Tamyia 'Flat Earth', followed by drybrushing with GW 'Sulphur Desert Yellow' and GW 'Ash Wastes Grey'. The base was then dabbed randomly with PVA glue and dipped in flock.
As a final touch, I lightly dusted the boots and trousers of the figures with the two highlight colours of the base, just to 'blend' them into the base.
Varnishing
The figures were varnished the figures using a single coat of Humbrol Gloss Cote, followed by a single coat of Humbrol Matt Cote.
