I
decided late in the construction to add wipers. It then
crossed my mind that motorised wipers would be really
impressive! Designing a mechanism to fit into the confined
space around the transmission and below the bonnet line was
challenging to say the least. The resulting design uses a
micro-motor located in between the chassis rails on the left of the
car. This drives a cam (actually a single section of engine
crankshaft), which in turn moves a rocker arm. This is
connected via a ball joint and socket to the wiper rocker. The
resulting motion is a little more restricted than for the real car
(the photos show the wipers at their extremes of motion), but it
still adds to the realism of the model.
