Club Information

Stockton Divers was formed in February 1981 by 8 people who were the members of B.S.A.C. 43 Branch based at the South Gare in Redcar.

Stockton Divers are a member of the Confederation Mondiale Des Activities Subaquauatiques (CMAS)

We are NOT a commercial organisation, in fact our branch is run by volunteers, and new members trained by club members working on a purely voluntary basis. Using the expertise of members we find we can operate cheaper than a commercial diver training outfit. As we only meet once a week for training, we cannot offer "fast track " diving so if you need to learn to dive in a week, we suggest that you approach a recognised diving school but don't forget to take your Bank Manager with you.

Stockton Divers has now become a divers club, welcoming divers from all organisations including :- Sub-Aqua Association, British Sub-Aqua Club, Professional Association of Diving Instructors, Scottish Sub-Aqua Association.

Although divers from all organisations are welcomed into the club, all training is based on the S.A.A. method. Cross-over modules are available to enable divers from other organisations to continue their training with the S.A.A. This is becoming very popular for the growing number of people learning to dive on holiday. We suggest you come and have a chat with us if you are in this situation.

The current membership is 72 and covers an age range from 14 into the 70's. It is a mature club with a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. Our dives take place in many varied locations from locally at Redcar and South Shields, to expeditions in Scotland, Ireland, France, Spain and Egypt.

Training takes place on Thursday nights, meeting at Thornaby Pool at 7.30 pm meeting in the front foyer. Training is available to all levels, starting with Snorkel training for our Junior section for 12 years plus, through to full equipment training. After the pool sessions we meet at Stockton Football Club around 9.00pm, where our members meet for lectures and a social evening.

Stockton Divers are a well equipped club having at our disposal, the use of our two 5.5 meter RIBS both fitted with latest safety, navigation and wreck finding equipment. Both RIBS are now fitted with the latest GMDSS radio technology. At the training pool all equipment is supplied for basic training.
