Welcome

Science Dome is designed to explore science, geology and geography in an interactive way. The Science Dome visits schools and clubs, providing an additional science resource and presenting a different learning experience to children.

We provide a fully digital mobile planetarium and natural history shows (rocks/ fossils and dinosaurs) to schools, colleges, youth clubs, scouts groups and playgroups. The service is provided in a blacked-out purpose built mobile domes which can be sited indoors using a school hall. Our domes are the most advanced digital domes in the country capable of showing 360 degree pictures and feature films.

We operate four mobile digital domes from Bournemouth, London and Glastonbury in Somerset, covering the whole of the South of England and the Midlands. We also tour the rest of the UK and EIRE on request. Dome Dimensions

 

In addition we have two special 'Outside Domes' for large events and fairs, now available. Our aim with the outside domes, is to make astronomy accessible to the public. Click here for pictures of the OUTSIDE DOME


Our domes can cater for a large event up to 60 people with special multimedia equipment and lens to provide a spectacular show for entertainment and education. All our mobile domes are fully digital capable of showing full dome films and an interactive solar system across the dome.

 

Award Winning 'Fractal' Programme comes to the Science Dome  
Fractals is the spectacular, award-winning fulldome planetarium show that takes viewers on a tour of the fractals in nature and zooms through infinitely complex mathematical fractals. Featuring original music, the show is both educational and highly entertaining, and suitable for audiences 3 and up. Click Fractal Programme

 

 

 

School Programme

 

Events include:

1. Solar System Tour and Beyond - KS2/3
2. Space Exploration (Apollo Moon Landings) - KS1/2
3. Dinosaur Show - KS1/2/3
4. Rocks, Soils and Fossils - KS2/3
5. Earth and Beyond - KS1/2
6. Light/Dark and Space - KS1
7. Light and Sound - KS1/2
8. Ancient Egypt (or Greece) and the Stars - KS1/2
9. Under the Sea - KS1/2 or .. Weather - KS1/2
10. Pirates and the Sea - KS1
11. Fractal Dome (Maths and Natural Symmetry) - KS2/3
12. Down to Earth (Volcanoes and Earth's History) - KS1/2  
13. Nano Cam Show (Biodiversity at Micro-level) - KS2/3   
     

 

The shows consist of using the dome, with a parachute game and other outside interaction if time permits. The topics listed above can be mixed during the day, with different shows in the afternoon perhaps.

Programmes can be partial constructed by the school in advance of visit to reflect current classroom subjects.

All these shows will help in the Creative Curriculum assisting topic based learning using our 360 degree screen and all surround computer films and art work.

A full day visit costing in the range of £395 (excluding VAT) with a typical day including up to five class shows.

London area the charge is around £450 per day (excluding VAT)

Please be aware that we charge a travel and hotel supplement north of the M4.

From 1st March 2011 we are charging a Fuel Supplement of £20 plus VAT on any new bookings of the Science Dome.

Full Dome Theatre Films

We are excited to be able to add to our programme seven full-surround films using our new 360-degree projection system from the USA. These films wrap around and over the viewer on the whole surface of the dome, and are the type of films presented in fixed planetariums in science centres, but we will bring them to your school!

Our current titles cover all school ages:

‘The Zula Patrol Under The Weather’  - This cartoon show is suitable for up to year 4.

‘The Zula Patrol: Down to Earth ’  - This cartoon show is suitable for up to year 6. Looking after the Earth and Earth Science with volcanoes, dinosaurs, underwater ancient life – all in full dome 360 degree picture from the award winning Zula Patrol series

‘Oasis in Space’ - liquid water - a key ingredient for life on Earth. Suitable from year 5 to adult.

'Black Holes-The Other Side of Infinity'.  Suitable from year 5 to adult.

'Astronomyths'-- From White Tower Productions in Greece. Stories in the Sky. Suitable from year 3 to adult.

'NanoCam Show' (Biodiversity at Micro-level) - KS2/3. From Elexilio Productions, supporting the UN Biodiversity programme.  

Kaluoka'hina: the Enchanted Reef-- Suitable for Year1 and upwards

The vastness of our planet's oceans guards unimaginable secrets. One of its most precious is "Kaluoka'hina", the enchanted reef. Suitable for all ages for a tour under the sea and trips to tropical reefs.

Birthday Parties

Our 'Party' service is an exciting alternative for your celebration! We can provide a wide range of different events from 'Wii' game parties (or XBox360 Kinect) for the teenager to 'Star' or ''Dinosaur' themed parties for the younger child.

Parties can be run anytime during the year after school or at weekends (except Sunday morning)

Wii games can be booked for a party during the half term holidays or just for a SPACE day.

Current rates for 2011 onwards --Party hire £150 to £275 (including VAT) depending on location.
