Shoot Field Target at Harriers FTC

Whether you want to be a FT Super Star or simply wish to enjoy an afternoon shooting air rifles in a safe,

friendly atmosphere, Harriers is the club for you.

We offer an environment where you can shoot safely, with more experienced

members on hand to give advice.

Field Target shooting is a safe and challenging outdoor sport, which can be

enjoyed by all the family.

It is a target sport and doesn’t involve the shooting of any wildlife.

As a shooting sport, air rifle field target shooting is the quietest and causes little pollution to the environment.

The targets are metal silhouettes which fall over when hit in the correct area and are re-set by pulling a cord from the

firing position. The hit zone which causes the target to fall is 40mm or less in diameter.

At club shoots, the course consists of 20  targets set out at random ranges varying between 7 and 55 yards. Each target is ‘shot’ twice, giving a maximum possible score of 40.

We also put out a practice range with targets set out at accurately measured distances every 5 yards, from 10 to 55 yards. This is particularly useful when setting up your gun and scope.

The skill in this type of shooting lies in accurately judging the range of each target, and making allowances for wind and weather conditions. Even a gentle breeze can change the path of the comparatively low power air rifle pellet.

Most people can acquire this skill with practice

It is important that the chosen rifle fits the shooter properly. We strongly recommend that any prospective shooter

takes advice from a person experienced in the sport before buying a rifle and that he or she comes along to the

club, where shooting skills can be developed in a safe and friendly environment.

Field Target shooting is an all year round sport, with many clubs joining together during the winter months to run

league competitions and there are many open competitions run at weekends during the summer.

Shooters are normally graded at these events and therefore compete with others of similar ability,

irrespective of age or sex.

Harriers meet for a ‘club shoot’ on Saturday afternoons once a fortnight with a regular turn-out of 30 shooters.
