What’s happening in Joshua’s world?

Notes about this pregnancy.

*** Joshua Christopher Hughes was born on 22nd January 2008, his weight at birth was 8 pounds and 14 ounces. ***

This pregnancy has been very eventful. Jennifer has been very ill with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (extreme morning sickness). and as a result had to take a year out of university and work. Obstetric Cholestasis has also been an issue in this pregnancy but with weekly blood tests and lots of monitoring this hasn’t posed much of a problem. Jennifer has to take daily injections to thin the blood due to her family history of blood clots. Jennifer finds this very hard as she is needle phobic BUT Jennifer also knows its for the best and that her baby boy will be worth every bit of pain she endures.

Both Jennifer and Nathan are very excited and nervous about becoming parents and are trying to prepare themselves physically and mentally. We both attending parent craft lessons to learn about the birth and how to look after a baby, in turn we are both getting confident about being the worlds best parents and giving Joshua the best start to life. Mocha the Cat is also having to make adjustments and doesn’t understand why he cant go into Joshuas room to sleep. Both sets of families are extremely excited are are eagerly awaiting Joshuas arrival.

6th April 08- Josh can type! ieifopdp;vncs;dknvs;dxlcmer

26th Jan 08- Sleep the Final Frontier - These are the voyages of Joshua Hughes - by Joshua Hughes - Decided to let Mummy and Daddy have some sleep last night, and I actually slept for 3 hours, and then 6 whole hours! But, have I lulled them into a false sense of security?!? :o) Granddad Henthorn changed my poopy nappy for me, and I thanked him by throwing up all over his smart trousers (although I will try and get the Oldham Athletic top next time once my aim improves!) And no matter how much Mummy and Daddy begged, uncle Craig wouldn’t take me to Euro Disney with him!!!

25th Jan 08- Not camera shy - by Joshua Hughes - Today I made my 1st internet telephone / video call to Grandma Debbie. Daddy said that I am like my Mummy and pose for the Camera!

24th Jan 08- Day 3 in the Big Mutha Household - Life on the Outside - by Joshua Hughes - After being forcefully ejected from the warm safe environment of the Big Mutha Household, life on the outside is newer, colder, and has less food on tap. But at least I don’t have to listen to Mummy’s choice of Music all the time! At the moment I am currently sleeping during the day, after successfully waking Mummy and Daddy up every half hour throughout the night.

23rd Jan 08- My 2nd Day by Joshua Hughes -After keeping Mummy up all night demanding food, Mummy has had to switch to Bottle feeding as she was in too much pain. Mummy said my middle name should be Dyson, as I have the suction power of a vacuum cleaner!

22nd Jan 08- My 1st Day by Joshua Hughes -We were moved up on to the delivery room at about 4am. Mummy was checked again and was found to be fully dilated, which would explain all the pain! Although Mummy really doesn’t like pain, and so was very pleased to be introduced to her new friend in the delivery room called Gas and Air. Think Mummy got a bit high on the Gas and Air, as she had had enough of the pain at this point and she kept letting the doctors know she wanted maximum pain relief by shouting “DRUGS!” at any staff that went near her! Although considering Mummy had already had an Epidural and lots of Gas+Air at that point, they decided she probably didn’t need any more “DRUGS” at that point in time! Once the Epidural had kicked in, Mummy stopped taking so much Gas+Air and sobered up! Mummy could still push, and so work with the contractions and start to push me out! The top of my head started to get cold, but I am told that it because the top of my head had come into view. Mummy was impatient to see me, and was pushing like crazy. My head came in to view more and more, and Mummy demanded a mirror so that she could see too! And then all of a sudden I shot out like a bullet, and the Midwifes were holding me up! Don’t think Mummy or Daddy were expecting me to come out so quickly. As Mummy went “its a baby” and started crying! And Daddy was still down the business end when it happened, and considering Daddy doesn’t like the blood on Casualty he did well to keep standing!

I then came into the real world at 8.47am, and was given to Mummy for skin to skin contact. Daddy then took a picture to show me to Grandma Debbie. I was nice and relaxed on my Mummy, and even started to feed within about 5 minutes of being born! I let everyone know that I didn’t like being put onto the cold weighing scales, or being given my 1st injection. But was happy again when they gave me back to my Mummy. My weight was 8 pounds and 14 ounces.

21st Jan 08- Induction Day (if they have a bed free!) by Joshua Hughes - The good old NHS did indeed have a bed free, and today Mummy went in for an induction. Mummy, Daddy and Granny Henthorn all went into the Hospital at 11am. Mummy was given something to induce her, and we waited till about 5pm, but still only 1cm dilated! So Mummy was given another thing to induce her. The induction process caused Mummy a lot of pain, and she decided to try and relive this by doing a mixture of screaming / howling / blowing the air in and out. But Mummy’s waters finally broke at about 2am, and water was gushing out everywhere (including the birthing ball she was on at the time)! This was timed perfectly with Mummy having a bad reaction to the Pain / Pain Killers, and this caused her to throw up everywhere! Daddy will later tell me that Mummy looked like the Exorcist at this point (although he was too scared to point this out to Mummy at this time). Mummy was then checked, and she was 4cm dilated at 3.30am. This was excellent news, as it meant that established labour had started and we could be moved up in to the delivery room. It was also excellent news as we would be moved out of the room we were in, which was starting to smell a bit now (not helped by the 2 Mcdonalds double cheeseburgers Mummy had earlier coming back to visit her)!

1st Jan 08- oh its all getting exciting now. counting down to new years mummy started to feel quiet uncumfy and had constant strong period pain feeling. also bump was getting very tight and tense. the period pain thing lasted all night and mummy didnt manage much sleep. mummy is still feeling quiet uncumfy so mummy and daddy are on stand by incase we have to rush into hospital for the real thing. fingers crossed that this might be it!

30th Dec- mummy had to go into mat ward again as we had a scare and thought that mummy was loosing her waters again. Mummy had a internal(ouch) and the docs said that my cervix is still closed and they dont think i am loosing my waters and if it is then at very small amounts. so after being sat in a room that was very close to being a store room, mummy and daddy finely left and went home and had a curry.

22nd Dec - well mummy started to get stronger contractions on wed and also started to get a weird taste in her mouth like aniseed. mummy went to the GP midwife on thursday and found out that Joshua is fully engaged now. Josh also measured 2 weeks big. On the Friday mummy and granny went to the hospital to get checked out and bloods taken etc. mummy had alot of bloods taken and saw the hospital midwife who was alittle worried because mummy thought she mite be loosing a small amount of water with every contraction so we had a scan to see if Joshua is ok and the level of water around him is ok. The scan showed that everything is fine and that the water levels are ok so far BUT mummy needs to keep an eye on how much she is leaking. We found out that Joshua weighs 6lb 9oz already. no wonder mummy feels huge and is very tired. mummy is getting very tired and stressed now and cant wait till Joshua arrives as she is fed up and uncomfortable

12th Dec - feeling very tired and sore at the moment. On Monday Mummy went shopping with Granny and a friend to M&S. i think we over did it abit and mummy had scared a few people in the shop as they thought she was going into labour. we think that Joshua’s head is traveling right down into the pelvis now and is hurting and effecting mummy and the way she walks quiet abit. On Tues Mummy and Daddy went to the last parent craft lesson. We both found these lessons very useful and Daddy always gets lots of booklets for mummy to read. Mummy has learnt about a sling thing that u can put baby in and carry him around with u. it has alot of spport and u can also breastfeed and it will keep it private. come on daddy and buy mummy a baby sling.

7th Dec - Had a scan today and saw little Joshua again. All is well and Joshua is looking big and strong. Mummy is 33+6 weeks but Joshua was weighing and measuring a week early 34+6 weeks. Mummy’s bloods and urine are all fine and the pregnancy is progressing well. Mummy can feel Joshua stretch more now and is getting very uncomfy but we know we will be seeing Josh soon enough..

*site still under construction *
