Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trustsponsored bicycle ride

Cyclists from Swavesey raised £565 for the Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust in this year's sponsored bicycle ride. A party of eight bell ringers and friends set off from St Andrew’s Church for a leisurely circuit taking in 18 churches and chapels, two weddings, two pubs, a watermill and a mosque.

After visiting Fen Drayton, Fenstanton and the Hemingfords, we enjoyed a hearty lunch at The Axe and Compass, Hemingford Abbots, which set us up for the return journey through Houghton and along the river path to St Ives.

Five cyclists stayed the full course, stopping off at the Oliver Cromwell PH for refreshment before returning to Swavesey across St Ives Bridge and visiting the bridge chapel. (No, we didn’t count the mosque!)

Our party raised £360, Jonathan Kinns raised £145 single-handed and Win Oakman managed to collect £60 in sponsorship without even getting on her bike!

Half the sponsorship money goes to the Trust and the rest directly to our chosen churches, St Andrew’s Swavesey and St Mary’s Fen Drayton.
