Update

As you are probably aware the 2002 Snowdonia Marathon fell victim to the atrocious gale force weather experienced across the whole country on Sunday and was cancelled.

Tim is most grateful for all the support and encouragement he has received from WAOC members - he will try again next year when he hopes you can repeat your generosity.

I am planning to run in this year's Snowdonia "National Trust" Marathon in memory of Dave Wotton. As many WAOC members know, Dave was an intensely active orienteer who served the club in many capacities. His tragic death last year when he inexplicably collapsed at an orienteering event in Sheffield was a severe blow to all of us who knew him. With the encouragement of Dave's wife Julia and your support I hope to raise funds in memory of Dave for the British Heart Foundation and NSPCC charities.

"Dave ran the Snowdon Marathon himself in October 1998 and his experience is described in an article in his Running Experiences Web page http://home.clara.net/dwotton/runarticles/. Like the London Marathon, the Snowdon race covers a full 26 miles but unlike the London event it includes climb totalling 1,900 feet. Taking this into account and the fact that I am in my fiftieth year it will be quite a challenge for me! I therefore ask for your support in sponsoring me. You can pledge your support by telephone (01223 513761), through my wife's email address Barbara-Mulcahy@ntlworld.com or by signing sponsorship forms that I hope to make available at forthcoming WAOC events especially the Rowney Warren event that takes place on the same day as the marathon. You can pledge a donation to either or both charities.

Looking forward to hearing from you, Tim Mulcahy.
