Planner's Comments

Main feelings on the day itself and later on seeing the results:

  • relief - at the weather, and that nothing had obviously gone wrong, especially not on the overprinted maps or with the S-ident boxes (the halcyon days - for planners - of master maps having long gone);

  • gratitude - to the controller Susan Marsden for her advice, for ruling out certain areas of dense undergrowth (still leaving plenty somewhat less dense for those who delight in such) and for her determination that controls and courses be fair;

  • regret - for not having had all the controls set out, despite assistance from the Marsden family, quite in time for a prompt start at 10.30;

  • surprise - at the tendency of several on White to Light Green courses to rush past the Start triangle without stopping to think where to go next (can anything be done about this? - in the arrangements for punching at the start?)

  • further regret  - that the Orange course turned out to have been too difficult, and too much of a step up from Yellow

  • mild pleasure - that a few runners had been caught out by the close-together controls in the SE corner;

  • mild disappointment  - that not many, on the legs with route choice, had been tempted across the forest  as intended - rather than round the paths; and

  • thankfulness - that it is all over.
