Organiser's Comments - Tim Mulcahy WAOC

Ursula's challenge to put on a WAOC SMILE event in the Milton Country Park proved a very enjoyable experience and the fine evening weather was a welcome bonus. I was very pleased to have so many enthusiastic competitors run my courses, especially those relative newcomers to the sport from the Kings College School and the Cubs and Scouts from 50th Cambridge (Milton and Landbeach) Scout Group. I would also thank the regular WAOC juniors and the Heybrock Family for making the event so worthwhile.

Milton Country Park is a small but very scenic venue for an orienteering event and can offer potential for excellent WHITE, YELLOW and ORANGE courses targeted at beginners and aspiring juniors alike. There were some speedy juniors on all courses and competition was keen but friendly. The Cubs and Scouts ran in groups but smiling faces at the finish suggested that everyone had enjoyed them selves.

Even though the event was a small one it still takes quite a bit of organising and help for it to run smoothly. I am therefore most grateful to WAOC members Rolf Crook, Anne Duncumb, Peter Gardner, Roger Horton, Adrian Taylor and Julia Wotton for their generous assistance. Also, I would like to thank Bob Pain, Julie Farrington, Nick and their band of parent helpers for supervising the Cubs and Scouts.

Finally, thanks to all who turned up, and made all the effort in planning and organising the event worthwhile. We hope to see some newcomers again at another WAOC event.
