The planner took considerable trouble in planning courses around the golf course, (which inhibits the planner for safety reasons), to keep every one clear of any flying golf balls. The maps were printed and we were ready to go. On Saturday morning before the event my wife remarked, " Are those sheep on the heath where there are some controls on Sunday"? A walk round after lunch confirmed our fears. The sheep had been moved from one area to another. Now, one of the control sites, used by three courses was now well 'protected' by an electric fence and about sixty sheep! Several telephone discussions later and swift action by the planner resulted in a series of 'map correction' maps for the affected courses which saved the day.
93 bodies of all ages braved the thick mists (which added to the interest of the navigation) to orienteer on Graham's courses. Due to the golf course, Therfield Heath is best used for night events. However Graham made the best use of the available terrain, especially for the shorter courses. We hope you all enjoyed your day out.
A thank you to all the club members who turned out to help making every thing run smoothly, especially Graham and Bruce. Also a 'thank you' to the conservators of Therfield Heath for giving us permission to use the area.
