I'm very grateful to my team of helpers for this event: Julia Carpenter, Maria Marshall, Mark and Tony Wadeson and Dave Wotton. I can only hope that the taste of donuts made up for the standing around on a bitterly cold evening. I am also grateful to all the participants for all their good sense and enthusiasm.

Planners' comments

We volunteered to plan an event for WAOC not imagining that we would be offered a night event! Our competitive experience of night orienteering was very limited, but Bruce kept us on the right lines, and we hope the inexperience didn't show. The fact that three courses were won by a matter of a few seconds seems to indicate that the courses were fair and competitive. At first we wanted the Chocolate course to be longer, but decided against second master maps, and kept it to 5.5k - after all, the climb was very respectable for a WAOC event!

Controller's comments

Leonie Brown, our W18 planner, succeeded in planning courses which were of the right technical difficulty and length. Thanks to her attention to detail this left me with no problems to attend to in the week before the event or on the Saturday.

I hope you enjoyed the courses on the night. I'm not sure whether the date was planned to take advantage of the full moon. Even in these conditions night 'O' presents a challenge to those used to the daylight version.
