Orienteering is an outdoor sport enjoyed either competitively or recreationally by people of all ages and abilities. The usual type of event is to navigate on foot around an area such as a forest or fell using a specially drawn orienteering map to visit a series of controls that have been placed on a course. Events are staged as races, but not everyone regards it as such, and you'll be very welcome whatever your motivation. At each event there are usually several courses of varying length and difficulty suitable for the very young through to the active retired. Starts are staggered over a two hour interval to prevent following. If you're new to Orienteering, try our Welcome To WAOC and What is Orienteering pages for more information on what it's all about.
