Organisers Comments

Thanks to everyone for coming to the event. I was a bit concerned when it rained this morning, thinking it might reduce numbers a bit, but in the end it turned out to be quite nice.

Given that the PhotoO in Jabberwaoc hadn't been attempted by many, I thought it would be a nice idea to run it as a real event and see how people would cope with it. It seemed like it was enjoyed by all of you, which is always nice. I apologise for putting control no. 2 in the wrong place (see the map extract attached: where the control should have been is marked with a black cross and where I put it is marked with a black circle) - when calculating scores I ignored control no. 2. The total score is made up of 3 components:

1) Speed: 1st person got 13 points, 2nd person got 12, and so on until the 13th person who got 1 point.
2) Points for visiting the controls: if you have the correct letter on your map, you will have been awarded this point (a maximum of 9 points is available).
3) Points for marking the controls on the map: if you put the controls you visited correctly on the map, you will have been given points for this (a maximum of 9 points is available).

With finding the controls, the ones that created most of a problem seemed to be 4 and 10, whilst marking the control in the right place seemed quite an issue with number 1 (I was really surprised about that, because I thought it was very obvious that there was only one more climbing frame to the north of that shown in the picture - acting as the control site) and number 7 (for which a number of different blue 'bumps' on the ditch were suggested as control sites). A full solution is also attached so you can compare your solution to how you did yourself - I think between you you would have got it all right eventually!!

With the Norwegian map memory event, I hope you didn't find me too evil for getting you to remember 2-3 controls at one time. Grantchester Meadows is quite an easy area, so I thought this might make it a little more interesting.
