Organisers CommentsFirstly many thanks to you all for coming. Fortunately, it seems to have cooled down a bit so running hopefully wasn't quite as bad as it might have been in the heat of the day before! I hope those of you who took the challenge of the limited map (which was most of you) enjoyed their somewhat empty maps. It is difficult to make Coe Fen interesting for orienteering at times so I hope that this extra twist made it slightly more interesting. Apologies for those of you who found number 7 at the corner of the paddling pool missing. I think the control must have fallen down from the branch and been removed into the bin by some conscientious citizen! Congratulations to Hally for his "lateral thinking" and actually noticing it in the bin (I didn't put it there on purpose, honest!). And many thanks to Marcus for going to replace the missing control for me. Apologies to those of you who couldn't find the control on the end of the earthwall - it is somewhat difficult to guess where exactly the earthwall ends there and I have tried to put it where it looked right to me. However, when you're putting out controls, things may seem obvious to you that aren't to the competitor later!! I hope it didn't cause too many problems. Having just gone through the control 'cards', I was somewhat taken aback of how many orange runners 'mis-punched' at the last control. There were two controls quite close by on the ditch, CD (last one on the challenge course) and BP (second one on the challenge course), each on one of the 'bumps' of the ditch. BP was further south and that was the control that was last on the orange course. Admittedly, in a real event, you would have had the control code to cross-check, so maybe it was a little mean of me if I put the two so close together. Sorry if I confused you with this (I think Andy actually put CD down and then crossed it out to replace it with BP...). Blanka Sengerova |
