Organisers CommentsA large proportion of the mapped area consists of streets and paths within Bar Hill and Dry Drayton villages. The medium and long courses visited Dry Drayton across open fields. Controls in the village areas were all lamp posts. The council has conveniently put numbers on them, thereby giving them the dual function of acting as permanent control posts. This meant setting up the courses on the day simply involved placing only three plastic cups at control sites outside the villages. On the face of it, it would seem that finding lamp posts, using what is effectively a street map, would be very easy. However, as last year, many errors in identifying the correct lamp posts were made, each of which incurred a two minute penalty. This allowed the ultra accurate Roger Horton to emerge victorious on the medium course. However, congratulations must go to Ben and Dil Wetherill (with push chair) for coming a very close second. I hadn't had push chairs in mind when I planned the courses so there were no doubt a few tricky places along the way for Ben and Dil. Well done too to Catherine and Thomas Hemingway who also did extremely well, accurately completing (possibly with a little help from Mum) the short course in a bit over half an hour. I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves on what turned out to be a very pleasant evening. Many thanks for coming along. Fred Northrop |
