WAOC Captain’s Page |

Most orienteering events are for individuals but throughout the year there are several events that are designed for teams from the same club. The club Captain is responsible for coordinating entries for these events on behalf of the club and on this page you will find details of forthcoming events.
Although WAOC aim to enter a competitive team(s) for each of the major relay events these events are not restricted to the 'top' runners within the club, many relay teams are formed of club members who also want to enjoy the social side of these events as well as the orienteering. Many of these events are for all ages (10-80) and standards, please read the details for each event for more information.
Below is listed the current events for which the club Captain is taking entries. For each of these events it would be helpful if you could either indicate what relay you would like to run in. Alternatively you could indicate what level and length you would like and a suitable team will be made up. As EOD is either not available or very limited it is essential that you inform the club Captain of your intention to enter at the earliest opportunity.

There are a number of upcoming major events in the spring and, as usual, WAOC will be hoping for a good turn out in all the team events.
The relay is on Easter Monday, 21 April 2003 at Hambleden Woods (Day 1 area) near Henley.
These are the provisional teams for the JK relays. The teams will be registered on Sunday but will, as always, be dependant on injuries etc. The team information will also be in the club tent at the JK individual days.

Again please contact me if you'd like a relay run, indicating which course you'd prefer to be on (age category, short/long open etc). Please contact me at the JK, if not before.
The relay is on Saturday/Sunday 14/15 June 2003 at Longshaw Estate, Derbys (nr Grindleford).
Although this event is called a 'night relay', many of the later legs will be run in daylight, albeit early in the morning. With the event happening the week before midsummer there will only be a limited amount of night.
The event comprises of 7 legs, the first 3 are normally in darkness, the next 2 around dawn with the last 2 legs almost certainly in daylight. The exact amount of light not only depends on the cloud cover but also depends on the speed of the early runners, but the above is a good guestimate. There are also different lengths of courses with short, medium and long legs.
If you would like to join in with this event please contact me indicating whether you would like a night/dawn/day leg.
It may be easiest to contact me by email: i.renfrew@bas.ac.uk. Otherwise, I have just moved, so my phone number has changed since the last membership list to (01603) 610270.
When you contact me it would be useful if you could let me know some entry information: your name, age class, BOF number, SI number and what you will be running. If this all sounds too complicated - it isn't, just email/phone me and I can explain. If you've never run in a relay before, they are great fun, so why not give it a try!
Happy running
Ian Renfrew
