Graphic CCTV Lens Calculator
The Graphic CCTV Lens Calculator has been designed to make the task of selecting the correct size Lens for a CCTV camera an easy one. Now all you have to do is set a few parameters, adjust the zoom slider until the desired image size is displayed and then all details that you require can simply be read or printed off. This includes the Focal length of the Lens required and the Angle of view.
The Graphic CCTV Lens Calculator differs from other calculators in the way that it presents the user with a graphic representation of the image expected. This can be either a Man, Car or Building making it very easy to use. It also has presets that follow PSDB guidelines for image size.
Because a visual representation is displayed on your PC it makes it easier to show customers the actual picture they are likely to see with any given size lens. This is also useful for Dome cameras. "How big will a man be on my monitor if he is 100M from the camera?" This is simple to demonstrate with the Graphic CCTV Lens Calculator!
Once you have Downloaded the zip file, unzip it to a convenient place and read the 'readme' file. Uninstall any previous versions of the Graphic CCTV Lens Calculator that you may have. Double click on the installer icon and the software will start to load. The default parameters are normally OK for most installations and the installer will place a shortcut on your desktop. This software has been designed to run on Windows XP or 2000 but should run OK on Windows 98 SE.
Firstly you need to determine what size CCD sensor is fitted to the camera that you will be using. Enter this into the Calculator. Then set the distance that the camera is away from the target object. The unit of measurement can be changed by clicking the settings tab. Next choose what type of object you will be viewing. If it is a Man then presets are available which conform to PSDB guidelines for minimum image sizes on the monitor.
Alternatively move the Zoom slider until the object is the desired size in the display and then read off the Lens focal length required. Height, Width and Angle of view are also shown as well as percentage screen size when the object is set to Man.
As with all Lens calculators, the results displayed should only be used as a guide and may not be 100% accurate due to variations in CCD image sensors, Lens tolerances and Monitor under/over scanning.
The higher the focal length of a Lens the narrower the angle of view and generally the bigger the physical size of the lens. This needs to be considered when planning a site for the camera so that the camera/lens combination will fit in the Housing. Lenses below approximately 3mm will tend to produce a "Fisheye" effect but can be useful in small rooms such as a Police cell. Many types of Lens are available Including Fixed focal length, Zoom lenses and Vari-focal. Many are available with or without an Auto iris.

Many CCTV Domes and Telemetry receivers use some form of switching to set the unique address of the camera in the system. One such method is based on the Binary system which allows addresses in the range 1-255 to be selected from an 8 way DIP switch. Although fairly simple to master many installations fall foul of incorrect address settings. The Binary Address Calculator has been designed to alleviate this problem. An Address can now be set or checked with confidence.
Once you have Downloaded the zip file, unzip it to a convenient place and read the 'readme' file. Uninstall any previous versions of the Binary Address Calculator that you may have. Double click on the installer icon and the software will start to load. The default parameters are normally OK for most installations and the installer will place a shortcut on your desktop. This software has been designed to run on Windows XP or 2000 but should run OK on Windows 98 SE.
Simply enter the desired address into calculator and press Go. The switches will then turn Blue to indicate 'on' or White to indicate the 'off'. Make sure that you set the Dome or receiver's switch settings to match. Alternatively to check the switch positions of a Dome or receiver, simply click the switches on the calculator to match those on the Dome and the address will be displayed. The Binary Address Calculator also makes an ideal teaching aid for understanding the Binary system.
Please Note: In line with a number of Manufacture's protocols the Binary Address Calculator will display all switches off as 0 or 256. Should you require a different address protocol please contact us by clicking on the contact link below.
