Guidelines for Breeding a UK Tonkinese

© Linda Vousden

In order to breed any pedigree animal consistently, there have to be agreed guidelines.

In the UK the Tonkinese Breed Club and, subsequently, the Tonkinese Breed Advisory Committee worked with breeders under the guidance and regulations of the GCCF, to which they are affiliated. They produced guidelines and official policies that eventually helped to establish the Tonkinese as a Championship breed  in the UK. It is advisable for all Tonkinese breeders to be aware of them.

Copies of these six items are available to download from the Tonkinese Breed Club web site - Useful Forms page

1) The Tonkinese Breeding Policy. This outlines the foundation programme for breeding Tonkinese and indicates the way forward.

2) The Tonkinese Registration Policy. This defines how Tonkinese may be registered with the GCCF according to their lineage - (from that page you may also access the Guide to Understanding the Registration Policy)

3) The Tonkinese Standard of Points. This describes the ideal Tonkinese for the purposes of showing,  and sets the standard that breeders should strive to obtain.

4) The only Breed Numbers acceptable in the Tonkinese pedigree

5) GCCF Code of Ethics for Breeders and Owners

6) Tonkinese Breed Club - Recommendations for Breeders.
