Singapore expresses the essence of today's New Asia: a vibrant, multi-cultural, cosmopolitan, sophisticated city-state where tradition and modernity, East and West, meet and mingle most agreeably and harmoniously. Singapore is a small but a very beautiful and economically strong country and a great tourist resort of Asia. It's a thriving country that has overcome its dearth of natural resources to become one of the juggernaut economies of Asia. It's a vibrant country with a strong economy. The colleges and universities offer talented individuals a conducive environment that challenges the intellect, stimulates and technological frontiers. The institutes equip its students with skills to discover, create and apply new knowledge. It's a country of imagination.
Visitors to Singapore are always amazed by what they see. The city's various luxury hotels and modem shopping malls dotting this tropical island are well-connected by the efficient Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) network. Singapore's bustling port, world-renowned Changi Airport, and thriving business, are all testimonies to Singapore's standing as one of the leading financial, economic and trading centres in the region. Check out Singapore's nightlife! Discos, jazz clubs, piano lounges, pubs and wine bars are amongst a whole host of nightlife options that await visitors when dusk falls. Make a trip down to Orchard Road, Tanjong Pagar, Holland Village and Bugis Street and Mohamed Sultan Road and take your pick of the variety of night entertainment options available there. In the evenings, the Singapore River also comes alive with a kaleidoscope of activities at Clarke Quay and Boat Quay. Wander around the restored shop houses at Clarke Quay where you can find restaurants, pubs and bargains of all sorts. At the same time, enjoy the street entertainment provided by baskers and live bands.
Education is among the top priorities for the people of Singapore and is the government's second largest expense. Mandatory schooling is enforced for 6 years of primary school and 4 years of secondary school. From secondary school, students can apply for junior college and eventually move on to one Singapore's three universities: the National University of Singapore, the Nanyang Technological University, or the Singapore Management University.
Simple Guide: Universities and Colleges
Some secondary schools offer boarding facilities, while others arrange home stays for international students. Usually universities and polytechnics offer student accommodation on campus. Some students prefer to live off campus and will seek advice from the student support services, provided by most tertiary institutes, to help with arranging home stays or give advice on finding student flats.
