Higher Education in Sweden
The Swedish system includes not only traditional university studies but also different kinds of Teacher Training, Health Care Training, Technical Training, etc. It is the responsibility of: the central government, regional authorities and private interests. All institutions of higher education fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education except the University of Agricultural Sciences (Ministry of Agriculture). Higher education is divided into undergraduate studies (courses combined towards a first degree) and postgraduate studies and research. The present Act on Higher Education in Sweden and a Higher Education Ordinance became effective on 1 July 1993.

Experience shows that to live in the Sweden for one year costs a foreign student between € 400 and € 700 a month. This is needed to cover daily expenses and to pay the registration.

APPLYING FOR A STUDY VISA
The key elements for success in applying for a study visa for Sweden are:

Final offer letter from College (this will be issued once fees have been paid in compliance with Swedish Government visa regulations).
Study plan. Student should present a logical study plan, e.g. Foundation Programme (Business) - Degree in Information Technology - Job in IT. Sector in home country. Visa success rates for students apply for a 2-4 year programme of studies are much higher than for students applying for Languages course only
Evidence that student can support him/herself fully without relying on state services, e.g. copy of current bank statement showing at least € 15,000 and a 'letter of good standing' from the sponsors bank.
