Spring Pub Of The Season 2008: The Cricketers
The branch were very pleased to present the Pub of the Season award to Kev and Sheila Harvell, landlord and landlady of The Cricketers, Wyndham Road, Bournemouth
It is a real community pub that serves a great pint and always has two guests. On our visit there was the familiar Fuller’s London Pride, but two beers we were less familiar with: Celt’s Golden Ale and Newman’s Last Lion of Britain. Not only is it worth a visit for the ale, but the pub has a range of posters advertising prog rock concerts of the 1970s in a room that once hosted a boxing gym where Freddie Mills (an interesting character in his time) used to train. It is the oldest pub in Bournemouth, dating back to 1847, and one feature is the urinals (just have a look!). But it is the ale that we recognise with this award and the whole branch congratulate Kev and Sheila and look forward to our next visit. If you are ever near the train station and fancy a pint, pop in! ED
