Piddle Brewery
Publicans Rob Martin (pictured third right) and Paul Goldsack (second left) are raising their glasses to the future after launching their own micro-brewery in Dorset. Dorset Piddle Brewery has officially started production of two beers - Yogi and Piddle - at Enterprise Park, a former army camp at Piddlehinton on the outskirts of Dorchester. The micro-brewery is a new venture for Rob and Paul who have run the historic haunted pub Ye Olde George Inn in Christchurch for the last eight years. They have taken out a five-year lease on a refurbished 1,100 sq ft unit on an annual rent of £6,875 and now plan to carry out at least two brews a week at Piddlehinton, producing up to 2,304 pints each time. The beer is always available at Ye Olde George Inn and also offered for sale to pubs in Dorset and surrounding counties. When ED CAMRA had our meeting at Ye Olde George Piddle was on handpump and we found it a very enjoyable malty brew with an extremely dry finish; a good session beer that went down very well over the evening. "We were looking for a new challenge but something that fitted in with running the pub and in a rural location. This is just perfect," said Rob. The Yogi beer (named after Ye Olde George Inn) has a 4.9 per cent alcohol strength while Piddle is 4.1 per cent. Info from press release, the branch will hopefully be visiting Piddle very soon; until then the branch wish Rob and Paul every success with this exciting new venture—and encourage everyone to support them whenever in Christchurch!!!! |
