Auditions are nerve-wrecking experiences for the auditionee, and can also be embarassing for the audition panel if you don’t hire the right pianist !

A good audition pianist will be able to communicate & sight-read well, bluff occasionally (!), follow the occasional vocal fluff if necessary and be an expert page-turner :). Basically, it’s all about making the auditionee feel comfortable and able to sell themselves as well as possible,

As I’ve been used by Derby Playhouse, the Hereford Courtyard, Barrie Stacey, Spirit of Broadway/Ray, SMA Productions and all the auditions for Maddie (if you remember that show from its brief appearance in the West End)- to name but a few - I must be doing something right!

I have also had good experience as a creative rehearsal pianist, often creating extra parts where there are just chord symbols, for example - a skill which led to me to play on the demo for the late Lionel Bart’s “undiscovered” musical “Quasimodo” having initially only been hired for the rehearsals. If you have a new product, don’t you deserve to exploit it to the fullest by utilising someone who can sell it :)?
