Welcome to The Great Amwell and District Branch The Great Amwell & District branch of Cats Protection has been in existence science 1947. Initially it was the aim of the late Miss Harvey, daughter of the Vicar of Great Amwell Church to care for stray cats and kittens in the Parish area. Nowadays we cover a much larger area but in her memory we still operate under our original name. We cover the postcode
areas of SG11 - SG14, EN11 and EN10 Broxbourne area. Our target is to re-home 100 cats a year. We are currently re-homing several cats per month so hope to better this target. We have been very lucky last year to have had three double pens donated to us by a present member in memory of their three beloved cats. The pens have been built on land owned by an existing fosterer and are unique in their design to offer extra luxury to the lucky cats staying at this shelter prior to being re-homed. Our Aims As well as rescuing stray and unwanted cats and kittens, rehabilitating and re-homing them where possible, we also encourage the neutering of cats not required for breeding, to keep the number of strays and unwanted cats down. Neutering makes
for a manageable and enjoyable pet. A neutered male should refrain from
spraying and both male and female cats should also be less inclined
to wander and get into fights. One un-neutered female cat can be responsible
for some 20,000 descendents in five years; many of these are unwanted,
homeless and end up on our doorsteps. Cats protection
runs a scheme to help those on a low income with this cost. Andree Magee: 01992 461644 We also offer an
advisory service on the care and welfare of cats and kittens. Several
information leaflets are available on request, which cover various subjects
concerning cats and kittens. |
