Training

"To prepare for a race there is nothing better than a good pheasant, some champagne and a woman." - Jacques Anquetil

"Ride Lots"- Eddie Merckx

Apparently the Tour de France is not won on l'Alpe D'Huez, it's won on early morning damp training rides in the winter/spring. With that awkward fact in mind, let us look at how training is going.

Actually the TdF is often won on l'Alpe d'Huez but you know what I mean.

Sportives provide a great training aim as well as being good fun - more details here on these events which will be a focus as winter moves to spring, for the Belgian Classics, and as Spring moves to Summer for the Gran Fondos of Italy and Sportives of France. The Cyclosport UK website also has lots of details on domestic and continental events.

The Tour of Flanders, Cheshire Cat, White Rose, Tour of Ireland and the Etape Caledonia are definites.

If any training inspiration is required....just watch this.....literally unbelievable speed up the alpe....literally unbelievable. Or this, but maybe not this.

"Everybody wants to know what I am on. What am I on ? I am on my bike busting my ass six hours a day"

Lance Armstrong
