"When man invented the bicycle he reached the peak of his attainments.  Here was a machine of precision and balance for the convenience of man.  And (unlike subsequent inventions for man's convenience) the more he used it, the fitter his body became.  Here, for once, was a product of man's brain that was entirely beneficial to those who used it, and of no harm or irritation to others.  Progress should have stopped when man invented the bicycle."

- Elizabeth West

Sponsorship is being raised for the primary beneficiary, local Nottingham based charity Education for the Children whose aim is to advance the education of disadvantaged children in Central America.

Emma Denman (rider Matt's wife and directeur sportif for one week of the tour) assists this worthy cause both in a UK based fund-raising capacity and on the ground in Guatemala. She will be able to directly observe the results of letour2007's fundraising efforts and the way it will change people's lives.

Donations are being organised through the 'Just Giving' mechanism, just click on the link below to donate or find out more. Your support is hugely appreciated.

Equipment and logistics

Sponsors who can help with logistics and speed us on the road to Paris are very welcome. The organisations and individuals who will be providing equipment and support for Le Tour 2007 will be listed here.

Accelerade will be providing energy drink for the gruelling 21 stages of the tour.

Gary Buxton and team at Acxiom have kindly arranged to provide a set of kit for each of the riders in the Challenge. Not stopping there, Gary has also signed up to complete a couple of the stages himself, so we hope he is in training !

Craig, Vicky and family at Veloventoux have sponsored our bidets (water bottles), we'll need quite a few.

Veloventoux provide bespoke cycling holidays in the south of France, beneath the shadow of Mont Ventoux. In the charming village of Faucon they offer accomodation, bike hire, transport and advice to do whatever you please, indeed rock climbing holidays are also increasingly popular.

Any enquiries about sponsorship opportunities should be made to Matt Denman

Participants

Riders are very welcome to join us for individual stages of the tour, indeed a number are already signed up. Transport should be arranged by the participants and we recommend that a minimum £250 sponsorship for the charity is raised per rider.

The best stages to join us are the mountain stages in the Alps or the Pyrenees, or prologue/stage one in England. Further details on the itinerary can be found here.

If you are interested in joining us on a stage or two, please refer to the 'Joining Us' page, or contact one of the riders and we'll try to pass on some logistical advice. There may well be an option to rent a chalet in Tignes (around the 1st rest day) for example.

Maybe see you in July !
