               Ancient British God & Hero

Raising Gods & Heroes!

Our own lives have known changing times. Our history is a compendium of changing moments. Throughout a greater past that has become our heritage; the British have enjoyed a way of life that was entirely founded and maintained by heroic minded people. Though most of their names are forgotten to us now, they can be collectively remembered when we give some thought to what a hero stands for. Our ancient families believed that anyone could be a hero if they lived their life with honour, the most honourable were considered as worthy as gods.

Today we sadly appear to be detached from this way of thinking and are becoming more disengaged from the roots of our past. We give little value to the telling of stories or the playing of games that the older amongst us enjoyed as children. We seem to have made a habit of replacing beautiful elements of our language with Americanisms, speaking in shorthand and giving less time to read or write. Fast speak like fast food now courses through our bodies and our lives. How many stories do we tell our children? How many do we even remember? The sadness is destined to become a tragedy when we finally exchange the words of the past for computer games, internet chat and mobile phone bites. An occupying of time and exchanging of ideas that more often than not is unworthy of remembering. What could more effectively replace an aged tradition carefully designed and handed down to us in time? What will our children have to pass on to theirs, that will keep them connected to their ancient family?

The telling of stories and the re-enacting of dramas is not only entertaining and fun but allows us to figuratively hold hands with our ancestors. We keep in touch with how they thought and gain some sense of what life once meant. We keep the family jewels in the family! Though we can choose to be negative about a pagan ancestry because we may now be Christian, or Jewish, or Muslim, we are still of a bloodline that is inextricably connected to a great family chain. A long line of integrated men and women who together made our presence possible so that we could continue raising little gods and heroes! Their presents to us! In turn our present to them is to remember them!
