We treat the issues of safety, health and the environment as key to our business and all our livelihoods. Policies are shaped, implemented and reviewed at Board level within the Company Management Team.
Statement of Safety Policy.
Our statement of safety policy can be found at the download page [click here]. Full paper copies can be obtained by writing to our General Office. A précis of salient points for the personal safety of our employees is listed in our document "Health & Safety Guidance Notes". Additionally, a wide range of HSE publications and leaflets are held in the Elliot Street technical library. We endeavour to operate Safe Systems of Work, by assessing the risks involved in our proposed workscope and then formulating methods to combat, eliminate or minimise such identified risks. To assist us with this system, a Site Inspection Report form can be downloaded, which allows clients to review and consider any hazardous aspects or issues at their premises or worksites, prior to our electrical works. Where necessary, to ensure safety by controlling the actions of others, we operate a 'permit-to-work' system. We audit sub-contractors that shall work in partnership on our projects. Suitable forms can be downloaded [click here]. Further information on safety is available from HSE, ROSPA and AEEU amongst others. Information on pan European Health & Safety issues is reviewed to gain new perspectives and best practice appraisals. To demonstrate our commitment to safety, we are pleased to be participating in the Working Well Together initiative. Our accident and incident rates are monitored continually to gain an accurate measure of the health & safety climate within the Company.
Asbestos.
We have been caught out lately by clients,
planning supervisors & principal contractors. We require all such to be
ethical & honest and play it straight with us. Tell us if you've got hidden
asbestos so that appropriate steps may be taken. [Completing our site inspection
report form prior to our works would be a worthwhile starting point.] If
you don't know - it's time that you carried out a survey and built
up your Asbestos Register. Soon enough the HSE will come. Please
see: www.hse.gov.uk/asbestos/index.htm
for useful information.
Environment.
We have to leave the country fit for our
children. By applying common sense, good practice and a cold business eye,
we endeavour to comply with all current UK legislation and EC Directives on
Waste and the Environment. We are registered with SEPA [view our certificate here] and
encourage all our trading partners to minimise waste (whether unnecessary
packaging or profligate transport usage). We seek to travel/deliver to our
projects using optimum logistics, considering emissions/fuel usage as a sound
basis for decision making. Where appropriate, we operate multi-passenger
drops around town. Our environmental impact policy can be found at
the download page [click here].
Employment.
Hopefully, we do not discriminate when we
hire new people. Applicants for jobs are sought based on ability,
competence and commitment. We do not see that religion, age, colour, sex
or domestic background have a bearing on that. Being a top flight
electrician working in the rewind/contracting environment is as tough as being
in international rugby player - but hopefully this is weighed against being part
of a good team. We strive to offer a stable environment where people can
build a livelihood with us or learn and then explore other avenues. We
observe the national working rules and operate under SJIB guidelines to ensure
fairness and parity. Please see our equality policy [click
here]..
Health.
The Company has made approaches to participate
in the Scotland's Health at Work Scheme
and has arranged a discounted membership at the local health club. Employees are
advised to confront any health issues affecting them timeously. Some government
guidance is at http://www.hebs.scot.nhs.uk/ and
at http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/.
Community.
We are pleased to offer work experience
placements to school and college students, which - hopefully - they find
beneficial. The understanding and guidance offered to these young people by our
personnel is a great asset to our Company and something that these students will
always recall. Additionally, we choose to support local good causes in a quiet
way. We hope that we run our business in an ethical manner. If you find
fault with our operations, please tell us - if we are not listening to valid
concerns try http://www.pcaw.org.uk/. Another
organisation promoting good business practices is Corporate
Accountability.
