Meyer Signal Generator

 

Introduction.

Some time ago I was sent an email containing  some questions about the Stanley Meyer's patents, by someone who was seeking the Holy Grail of energy ..... turning water into vehicle fuel. Ignoring the small matter of whether I believe this is possible or not  ....  I attempted to guide him down the path that others had taken.  Meyers patents were all about  splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen, using pulsed waveforms,  with  'over-unity' efficiency. The claims attracted a lot of interest, because only relatively simple equipment was required to split water .... and everyone who tried it, succeeded in producing hydrogen from water .... but no-one (as far as I know) ever approached conversion efficiencies over unity.  Interest in Meyer's patents reached a peak in the 1990's. 

In 2008 I was surprised to see how much interest in the Meyer patents still remained. A new generation had come along  and they badly wanted to believe that water could be converted into fuel at over unity, for the simple reason that it could end the energy crisis on this planet. The interesting question was whether the 2008 generation of researchers could come up with anything that the 1990 researchers had overlooked.  There were certainly a lot of unanswered questions to be solved, to end the matter one way or the other.  From this point on I have high lighted those points in red.

I do not know of anyone who found the magic water resonance frequencies that Meyer claimed to use. Lot's of people tried to find them, by reverse engineering the patents, but the underlying idea, did not seem to work.  As I have written else where ..... the  apparatus described in the patents could NEVER have worked, simply because tap water is conductive and would have shorted out the water cell plates

If there really was a 'Meyer effect' then it would require water  cell plate voltages, in the order of  tens of thousands of volts ..... to hundred's of thousands of volts, across the plates in order break the bond that ties the hydrogen and oxygen molecules together. From an engineering point of view it is not difficult to create such voltages if the water used was Not conductive.  The question is, would it work if one set of plates were insulated or distilled water used.  For some strange reason most researchers seemed to have missed these points.

Now, although everyone could produce hydrogen by simple electrolysis, I saw no one who could actually measure the RATE at which hydrogen was being produced !.  If you cannot do that how one possibly know if one is approaching a water resonance , or an increase or decrease in conversion efficiency?.  

Meyer also is rather vague about the word 'resonance', and sometimes seems a little confused between equipment resonance and water resonance. In this application they both serve the same end. I the equipment we use resonance to give us a Hi Q in the output 'tank' circuit, in order to increase the voltage to the water cell. Water resonance is an effect in the water whereby the hydrogen / oxygen bond can be more easily broken. Now a lot of people who claim that there are no special resonance's in the water, at the kind of frequencies that Meyers claimed to have used ( 1 - 10 kHz). However that is not true, because in water the Proton Precession frequency is a well known effect and at my latitude occurs at about 2 kHz in distilled water. 

To find any odd resonance's we obviously need some special equipment, that was NOT available to many early researchers.

 

The infinite monkey theorem.

The infinite monkey theorem states that a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type a particular chosen text, such as the complete works of William Shakespeare.

 

Serendipity.

Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely.  Following, is a list of just a few of the things that were discovered by accident ......

Hardware 

After I received the email about the Meyer patents, I decided to think about it for awhile to see where it would lead.  All of the above points were in my mind when I started to think about the special test equipment that was not available to me in the 1990's.  There were two main items, a gas rate measuring instrument and a purpose designed signal generator / exciter.  The first item materialised as an electronic bubble counter, with bypass. From an electronic view it can be as complicated as you want it to be.

For the signal generator / exciter,  I had envisaged the end product would be a PCB and a Programmed PIC microprocessor. Add a few other easy to obtain components and you had exactly what you needed to carry out some REAL research !.

The proto-type running on the PIC DVD development board. Looks a bit messy but it all boils down to a fairly neat single sided PCB (see below).  The central space is for a speaker, for audio feedback for entry validation, end of sweep indication, battery state and making funny noises !. Bottom left chip is a 5000 volt  opto isolator to completely isolate the users side of the circuit from the high voltage, high current exciter output circuit.  The signal generator board can run on any voltage between 9 - 18 volts AC or DC.  The power switching MOSFET's are mounted off the board because of the very high current capability. The keypad and display plug straight into headers on the board. An ICSP socket is also provided on board. Apart from power on/off switch  all functions are controlled via the keypad. The board can handle the following LCD displays.  16 x 2, 16 x 4, 20 x 2, 20 x 4, 40 x 2, 40 x 4. Adaptors are available to suit any display pinout.

I think a theoretical presentation would be the bare PCB, a programmed microprocessor and a CD containing full assembly and operating instructions.  I would also like to see patent copies and the fuel to water story so far, plus links on the CD.

Above is a screen shot of the main menu. Two buttons are used to navigate the menu system ..... 'move' and 'select'. Pressing the 'move' button moves the cursor to the letter 'S' and so on ... with wrap-around. Pressing the select runs the sub program ie Manual, Auto sweep or a custom waveform generator.

 

For manual operation a sub panel drops down to allow the frequency and duty cycle to be set. Any frequency in the range 150 - 40,000 Hz cam be entered  with 1 Hz resolution. 'D' sets the duty cycle between  0 - 100 % in 1% steps.  

 

Auto Sweep Screen Shots.

The generator is capable of sweeping the complete frequency range of 150 Hz to 40,000 Hz in one band. It is also possible to program the start and end frequencies of a sweep. This is an essential and invaluable feature for professional research. It effectively allows any small section of the frequency spectrum to be magnified and examined in detail, whatever the Q of the circuit under test. 

The response of water fuel cells tends to be slow. When measuring gas generation rates it is very possible that a low Q resonance may be missed, if the sweep time is too fast.  To prevent this happening and maintain research flexibility, the generator sweep dwell time can be set to 1, 10, 100 or 1000 mS. 

 

This screen shot shows the generator running in Auto sweep mode, with a dwell time of 1 mS.  Notice that the last two Frequency digits are blurred because of the short dwell time selected. Sweep abort is via the 'move' button.

A predictable 'accidental' discovery will be a cheap method for the purification and distribution of drinking water for third world counties .... also desalination. So It would also be a good idea to include the background to that subject on the CD, in order to produce the 'prepared mind" for that 'accidental' discovery !.

Conclusions.

Consider the monkeys. Consider  serendipity . If we had 10,000 water to fuel researchers, with some guidance and the right equipment ...... who knows what they might discover ?.
