ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jim Ashman
I joined The Life Guards straight from school in 1980. My basic training was done at what was The Guards Depot, Pirbright, passing out on 14th August 1981.
From Pirbright I went on to the Household Cavalry Regiment, but not before setting up Summer Camp for them.
Six months in riding school and another Passing Out Parade, I was assigned to 3 Troop The Life Guards Squadron. I was with 3 Troop for about 4 years, doing various Ceremonial Duties.
I moved to the Armoured Regiment just as 'B' Squadron arrived back at Windsor from a tour in Cyprus. I joined Support Troop driving Spartan's and then moved to SHQ as the Sultan driver.
I left the regiment in Dec. 1987 and have remained on the reserve since then.
Since leaving I have had a few jobs as most do, got divorced and had a spell at College and University.
I'm presently working at Heathrow Airport looking after a computer network and live in Yateley Hampshire with my girlfriend and two children.
I have always had a keen interest in history and have recently re-kindled my interest in it and the Regiment.
I decided to construct this site after finding that there was not one anywhere on the WWW dedicated to The Life Guards Regiment. Finding the domain name still available was an added bonus.
