John Wain Milward 1914 - 1973

Taken around 1965-6, this is the only picture I have showing both myself and Dad.  Dad (known in the village as 'Spanner Jack' since he was always fixing things), was a miner, finishing at Rufford Colliery in Rainworth, Nottinghamshire.  I'm told he used to breed Boxer dogs, although I have no memory of that.

One of my regrets is that I never had an adult conversation with Dad, as he died when I was 16 years old.  However, I do remember him singing to me and telling me stories when I was very young. He always supported my musical life and ambitions.  I can also remember him seeing me on stage as I played the role of 'Strephon' in the school production of 'Iolanthe'.  He was seriously proud of me that night!
